Board adopts new vision statement

Advertise in the 2008 Walla Walla Valley Farm Map

December 14, 2007

You are invited to advertise your business in a promotional tool that will feature local food and farmers: The 2008 Walla Walla Valley Farm Map.

A farm map is a way to directly link valley residents and visitors to our local agricultural producers and products. It can help farmers make direct sales to customers and aids consumers in finding specific seasonal products. It increases general awareness about our unique farming culture and economy.

The Farm Map will be a classy, duotone, fold-up publication that features:

  • A road map highlighting the locations of farms and farmers markets
  • Descriptions of the 30+ participating growers and producers of vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, honey, dairy, eggs, meat, animals, plant stock, and fiber products.
  • A “Product Index” and a “Guide to Eating in Season”
  • Advertising and Sponsorship by local businesses and agencies.

Advertising in the Farm Map will highlight your support of local agriculture. With a minimum distribution of 7,000 copies and year-long use, the Farm Map, and your ad, will effectively reach a primed consumer base. The large number of people who use and reuse this guide throughout the year will be likely customers for your business. For restaurants and caterers the Farm Map also promises to be a useful directory for connecting with local growers. To launch the project and create this valuable community resource, financial backing is needed.

To be included in the Farm Map as a supporting business, please return the registration form, graphics, and payment by January 20th, 2008. Graphics can be sent as pdfs via email or in hardcopy. Design services are available by arrangement. Advertising costs for slots appearing on the interior of the Farm Map are based on a space fee of $150 per 3.5x2” duotone section. Farm Map sponsorship, based on a minimum contribution of $500 will be recognized with a 3.5x4” interior slot and be featured on the outside cover of the map. If all goes according to plan, maps should be ready for distribution by April 1st.

I hope you will support this effort to promote and celebrate the good eating and agricultural richness of the Walla Walla Valley. I welcome any questions and suggestions. Contact me at (509) 529-0772 or emily@welcometablefarm.com.

Sincerely,

    Emily Dietzman

Spread the Word! October is Co-op Month.

Consumers have a trusted alternative to large, publicly traded corporations - Cooperatives! It's Co-op Month, which means now is the perfect time to learn how co-ops make a difference in our lives every day.

Amid growing public skepticism about the integrity of large, publicly traded corporations and increasing regulatory attention to their inadequate governance practices, new national survey results demonstrate that consumers have a more trustworthy and accountable alternative: Cooperatives.

New survey results demonstrate that consumers trust and prefer the democratic, accountable business structure of co-ops.

The survey found that Americans believe the democratic business structure of cooperatives is more trustworthy than the structure of large, publicly traded companies. Most consumers say that knowing a business is a cooperative increases the likelihood that they will buy its goods or use its services. This holds true for both consumer-owned co-ops and farmer-owned cooperatives. Consumers also said that positive business attributes like trustworthiness, ethical operations, customer service and others better describe cooperatives, compared to large, publicly traded corporations.

Consumers who already belong to co-ops rate them more highly. Consumers need more information about and access to co-ops.

That's where DAILY MARKET comes in! National Co-op Month is about raising awareness of cooperatives. Consumers need more access to businesses they can trust. Here in Walla Walla, there is an easy way to promote access to co-ops: support Daily Market by becoming a Member-Owner.

Here are a few more ways to learn about co-ops:

  • Learn more about co-ops in several business sectors at www.go.coop (includes a great video!).
  • Attend Daily Market's Harvest Party and Hoe-Down on October 13th!
  • Meet Daily Market at the Farmer's Market every Saturday and Sunday this month, where we have an information table.
  • Read case studies about the difference food co-ops make in their communities
  • Listen to NPR, where you can hear sponsorship statements about Co-op Month, thanks to support from Cabot Creamery. These will run all month long on Day to Day, Morning Edition, Talk of the Nation, and other NPR programs.
